About me

My name is Daniel Masterson and I am an Associate Professor of Social Psychology with extensive experience in the fields of co-production and health communication. My academic and research background centers heavily on investigating how participatory frameworks, patient-practitioner interactions, and health and welfare services can transition from doing things for people to doing things with them.

I have conducted research into co-production since 2011 and was the lead author of a landmark review examining how co-production and co-design have been defined and applied across health and social care (Mapping definitions of co-production and co-design in health and social care: A systematic scoping review providing lessons for the future).  I advanced realist synthesis research exploring the underlying social mechanisms that enable inclusive and reciprocal co-production and was lead author on the blended social interaction and learning framework which helps to convey the many ways we can interact within digital and face-to-face workshops

I have a wealth of practical experience leading and developing co-produced educational environments, such as collaborative digital university courses, and contributing to tool development and values-driven pathways to bridge academic research with frontline health and welfare practices.

With extensive experience as an invited speaker and facilitating co-production workshops, Il frequently shares my experience on creating a conducive environment for co-production in physical, digital and blended settings at events as well as acting as a formal advisor for PhD students undertaking co-production in their research.
